The Appleton Rum Tour is a 45 minute guided tour of the historic distillery which has been in the business for over 268 years. The Estate is located on the south coast in Nassau Valley, St. Elizabeth.
Appleton Estate is Known for some of the finest rums in the world and
has been producing quality rum since 1749. It is Jamaica's oldest sugar
estate and distillery in continuous production.
Your tour
will include the visit to the ageing house where you will see the copper
pots which gives the rum its rich distinctive flavour and the oak
barrels used for ageing the rum for up to 30 years.
Learn about the equipment used at the distillery, the fermentation process of the sugar cane, molasses, yeast and the water used from the estate grounds which is limestone filtered. The tour will also include details on the processes used over 200 years ago and the modernization of the equipment. You will also sample the different flavours of rum and even get a free sample for your keeping. Rums are also available for purchase and some some flavors are only available in Jamaica. Don't forget to taste the freshly pressed sweet sugar cane juice.
The first known documentation of rum production on the Appleton Estate is dated 1749. However, it is believed that the origins of the Estate dates back to Sir Francis Dickenson in 1655. The Estate may have changed hands over the years, but since 1749 all Appleton Estate rum have been produced with a passion for rum and a love of the land from which it is produced. The rum is perfected by the Master Blender, Joy Spence. The first woman to be appointed Master Blender in the world. All processes at the estate are environmentally friendly and certified by the International Standard Organization (taken from Appleton Estate).
